SUMMARY:New Approaches in Folklore Research: Different Applications of Semiotics Theory
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dr. Arzu Öztürkmen: New Approaches in Folklore Research: Different Applications of Semiotics Theory\n\n‘Folklore’ has been an important field of humanities since the nineteenth century. Starting off from the history of folklore research\, this presentation discusses the opportunities provided by the discipline of folklore in understanding both the historical ethnographies\, and the complex cultural forms of our time. Semiotics theory contributes in the analysis of many cultural forms\, from the Ottoman oral and visual culture to todays popular art. The discussion also aims to explain the role and contribution of semiology in folklore studies.
